- How are sinkholes made? By: Makayla, Phoenix and Trent
A sinkhole usually forms by erosion caused by frequent exposure to water. Most sinkholes occur in areas where the bedrock is formed from soft minerals and rocks like salt, gypsum, limestone, dolomite. Sinkholes appear all over the United States. Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri and Pennsylvania.
I think that sinkholes are bad in some countries, because they destroy peoples homes.
I think that sinkholes are made because the wind is getting stronger which makes the hole go deeper.
I think that when you play with dirt, and you put water on it it sinks out of your hands right? Well I think that's sort of what happens with the sinkholes. All the rain and floods that happen will probaly make the ground sink which is a sinkhole. But the water has to be touching limestone.
